PROCESS NEW THOUGHT

New Every Moment!

Welcome to the web site of Alan and Deb's Pretty Good Religion, a.k.a.Process New Thought.  We have woven it out of the raw material of our spirituality.  It is a religion that combines:

New Thought practices, including meditation, affirmation, visualization, consistent and persistent God-oriented attitudes toward life, for greater health, wealth, and happiness

with

a new, process-oriented understanding of the natures and relationships of God and ourselves.  We like to sum this up with the expression "new every moment".

New every moment is more than a slogan; it is shorthand for an uplifting attitude and a comprehensive philosophy that we use to update New Thought, to keep the fun and major transformations in living that characterize New Thought, while discarding the perplexities and paradoxes that have marked some versions of New Thought.

Process thought is the systematic philosophy and theology of Alfred North Whitehead, Charles Hartshorne, and their followers.  It seeks, among other things, to unify science and religion into a coherent whole.  As a constructive postmodern philosophy, it has great importance for open-minded thinkers in all disciplines.  It offers a sound, up-to-date metaphysical foundation for New Thought principles and practices, which are chiefly derived from the teachings of Jesus.

Unlike the common understanding of process as a succession of readily observable actions leading to a certain outcome (product), process thinkers understand process, constant change, as the basic nature of all reality.  Ancient and early modern atomists believed that the basic building blocks of the universe were solid material particles, but process thinkers believe that those basic building blocks are units of living energy.  Like P. P. Quimby's mingling minds, they are interacting, with earlier-developed ones influencing later ones.  Each unit is a process, and so is the gigantic universal stream of them, which Whitehead referred to as "the creative advance into novelty."
